Sorry, I don't mean to break up the party, but what about a "No Thanks" button ?
. . . or would it just lead to gratitude wars ?

If that seems like too blunt an instrument then perhaps a "Thanks, But No Thanks" button
as a more polite version might edge the debate along a little.

    Thanks.

I note also that one may not "Thank" oneself which self-congratulatory instinct
is so central a part of modern life.

    Thanks

    Thanks.
I think we need a "Man, that's utter lunacy" button.

On a more serious note, I don't know what it is, but I like when someone thanks one of my posts. And now I get frustrated on some of the other bulletin boards (non-music) I go to that don't have a "thanks" button. Plus, sometimes it's easier to just hit the thanks button than to add a post that doesn't add anything substantive. bb

Or perhaps a little icon of an evil troll?

Let's not encourage any more "You're a poopy-head!" "No, you're a poopy-head!" food fights. This is the most civil music website I've frequented, and it's great to have it that way.

    No need to thank me...

I would rather ignore and not attempt to hurt feelings. I think if something does not interest you just move on.

How about an "Are you serious!?" button/emoticon or a "Shoot Me Now" emoticon.
I really prefer the use of "common courtesy" which seems to be less common and even less courteous.

Hmmm...perhaps it's time for a "spank you" button, too?

I've used them--sometimes for Thanks, sometimes to say Good Job!, sometimes as a Like button.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

No, "+" is the multi-quote button. There is no Thanks button on the mobile layout afaIk.

The "Thanks" button reminds me of the "Like" button in Facebook. However, "Thanks" is more - to me, it means I actually benefitted from a post rather than just "Liked" it.
I do "Thanks" people often, though.
