Well this just happened.
Well this just happened.
I will ask the proverbial first question, "what mandolin is Chris playing'.
Carry on.
That's freaking hilarious...and, as usual, really good. And, while George's question is certainly most appropriate for the Cafe , I really dig that monstrosity Noam was picking on!!
Chuck
I have recorded Noam on that vintage plectrum resonator before. Thing sounds fantastic in his hands.
Chris looks to be playing a Gilchrist Model 4 Jr.
Chris must have snagged that one from Carter's. I've played that one and it's a helluva nice oval hole mandolin!

Brad, agree, Noam really makes that resonator sing!

Sounds like old Squirrel Nut Zippers. Nice song.

Yes! It seems like only yesterday (to me) that the SNZ had their surprising explosion of popularity. But I'd add that this lyric has the weird-friendly-edgy signature of lyricist, Gabe Kahane who lives here in NYC and pals around with the Bros while moving freely in contemporary classical circles as well.
His father is Jeffrey Kahane who directs the LA Chamber Orchestra. Gabe composed an amazing indescribable contemporary stage production that I saw this year called The Ambassador - his homage to LA. I saw it in Brooklyn and loved it. He's also known for his 'Craigslistlieder'... songs based on actual Craigs List ads. It all seems pretty heady - but he, like Chris, are of a generation that seems equally at home with an orchestra at Carnegie Hall and solo at the tiny Rockwood Music Hall playing to 35 folks with drinks in hand.
^^^^Thanks for that, Brad. Cool background stuff to know.
