Default This Pick Truly Eliminates the Click, also the Sound

I'm not sure what I was thinking, but like a lot of folks, I can't resist trying out a new pick. And I figured the 'hard' variety of the Wedgie rubber pick might be of some interest. But it really should be called, 'the Silencer'! It's about the consistency of a pencil eraser, and for mandolin players that may be its best use.

Now perhaps for electric bass, this thing makes some sense, but on mandolin its best use is for practicing while your spouse sleeps. Almost no sound at all, but even the most pick-click sensitive player will have no cause to complain.

edit: Actually, it's kind of nice for playing while watching television. It's so quiet.

The thicker the pick, the more the high end gets killed.

The Wedgie pick kills all of the high end.

The mandolin is all high end.

I wouldn't mind playing muted at times, so considering quietness not being a negative, do you think it's still usable? Does it play approximately like a more standard pick, e.g., not sticking to the strings or instantly breaking apart?

Not sure if it'd be worth $4 to me anyway (at least if it wears out pretty quickly as I expect it does), but I might be tempted to get one to get free shipping.

I bought one of those for fun.
Not too good on a mandolin--not great for guitar--but kind of cool on bass.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

Great for instruments which can normally be played audibly with just the fingertips (steel string acoustic, electric bass, ukulele).

Would your mandolin sound great and audible played with fingertips, no nails? If so, then these will work on that mando.

From Mandroid - " Try hard Wool Felt picks .. ".Going back to 1963(ish) when i'd just started playing banjo (strumming !),somebody gave me a felt pick to use at home. The feel of it going over the strings was like fingernails on a blackboard. One of the most horrible sensations i've ever 'felt',

It's good to know that the fiddlers don't own all the FoB devices - we can strike back

Can't believe I just ordered a pack of these "Wedgies". I have a bad case of PAS.

Brad..You were right. The Wedgie pick is quiet and is kind of nice to use while watching TV. Now, if only I could find something worthwhile to watch. Glad I ordered them.

When I inherited Grandpa's WWI-vintage banjo-mandolin the case candy included a fat felt pick, the one Grandma insisted he use around the house. Yeah, pretty quiet. I can't check it out at the moment -- it's packed in one of my evacuation bags --but I recall it not giving much sound, still a bit better than limp cardboard.
