Looking forBuck "Ruff Rider" case info

I just aquried this case and know little about it. I do know it is very heavy and I was told it orginally came with the Monteleone Grand Artist. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The original flight case...very cool! Not the most popular case in the modern carbon fiber age but it was the Cadillac of cases in it's day. Congratulations!

It is an 8 ply case, all birch. Back then, Monteleone was selling through the Mandolin Brothers and the Buck Rough Rider was one of the choices for a Grand Artist. It was sold by Buck. I don't remember the proper full name of the Buck Company, but they sold acoustic instruments. It has lots of storage space inside and is still wonderful protection for a mandolin. It is a large case built like a tank.

I'm going to try and find a way to attach a shoulder strap on the case to make it easier to carry.

Nice case, I'd attach some spring loaded wheels and a pop-out handle (like pull along luggage), lol!

Years ago I checked out a rough rider. The salesman took a Gibson F5 off the wall, put it in the case,laid the case on the floor and told me to jump on it. I wouldn't because I hate to see any instrument damaged, the salesman said he wasn't afraid to jump on it and did so. A good case but I was searching for a case for an Aria mandolin the RR was almost as much as I had paid for the mandolin so I didn't buy it. As I've said before the weight is not important to me I used to carry Dad's banjo for him, a mandolin in the heaviest of cases don't come close.

....and disc brakes, LED lighting and maybe 289 ci Mustang engine. (Anything larger would be too much to handle.)

I bought a Monteleone Grand Artist from Mandolin Bros in the mid 80s and it came in a Buck Ruff Rider case. I still have both although I had Superior Case Company custom make a shaped case for my Monteleone. The Buck is extremely heavy, massively built. I can stand on it and not worry about any damage to the mandolin inside. Mine looks exactly like the one pictured.

As far as adding attachments for a shoulder strap, should not be a problem. The walls are thick enough for you to screw hardware to the sides of the case. Of course, the weight factor is going to make it hard on your shoulder and back.

Another warning, I added some padding around the storage box because the corners are sharp and could damage a mandolin when you are putting it in the case.
