Hi, everyone.

Does anyone know the timeline of the introduction of flatwound strings? I have a set on one of my bowlbacks and like the sound, but I'm attempting to recreate the "Golden Era" sound, around 1880 to 1920. Now I'm trying to string an old Italian bowlback mandola (viola tuning, not European style) and I suspect for total authenticity I should be using standard, round wound basses. Any perspective or opinion is most welcome. I intend to cross-post in a couple of other places.

Best to all, and keep playing.

Chris.
