Default Sam Bush's Mandolin Method DVD

I've had this 2 DVD set for a long time. Great tunes on there such as Big Mon, Blackberry Blossom, Brilliancy, Get Up John, etc. and Sam is a good teacher.

What really annoys me about it is that it does not seem to be tuned to 440 Hz to my ear. I played with the Snark a bit yesterday and decided it was about 436 Hz or so for the A, and equally 'off' in that amount on the other strings.

I wonder if it happened in production, or if Sam was just tuning by ear to himself and not to standard, or if Sam likes to play slightly off?

It makes it rather annoying to play along with. Anybody else notice that?

Sorry, found this thread from 10 years ago after posting. At least I'm not the only one.

I'm making my way through the Sam Bush/Monroe DVD. What gets me is that some of the tab is different from the DVD. Some of the tab doesn't make sense. So I've given up on the tab part and am concentrating on the DVD. Good for ear training, but you would hope that the makers of the DVD/tab, would have fixed it by now.

I think it has to do with the recording/processing method. It never bothered me much though. That's a great DVD.
