Default C. Munier: Barcarola for mandolin & guitar (w/ score)

Carlo Munier (1859-1911): Barcarola for mandolin & guitar

This nice and straightforward barcarolle was written as a duet for mandolin and guitar by Carlo Munier, one of the leading composers for classical mandolin in the instrument's Golden Age from about 1890 to 1910. I found the piece in the Nakano collection (see attached).

The score does not have an Opus number, but appears to have been published in one of the era's mandolin periodicals, possibly "Il Plettro", as it says "Anno II, No. 7" on it. If the source was indeed "Il Plettro", that would make it 1907, as the magazine started in 1906.

I have played the guitar part on tenor guitar in GDAE tuning.

One of your more beautiful efforts, Martin. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon, sipping a chai latte, watching the birds at the window.

It's no longer accessible, unfortunately. This was the personal sheet music archive of the Japanese composer Jiro Nakano. Scans of this collection were for some years made available online to mandolin ensembles and orchestras around the world through an invitation-only password protected web site. The site closed down several years ago, although there was mention that the CMSA may host a revived version of the archive. This would be a big job, because the original site contained much music that was still in copyright (indeed sometimes still in print), which would need to be identified and removed before relaunchig the archive. The scans I'm posting are public domain, of course (Munier died in 1911).

This is what I was looking for! I have printed it out and will bring it to rehearsal on Tuesday to play with one of our guitarists in the Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra.
