Mine were $13--but at another store in the same city they're $17 or $18--for the same model/colour
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

That's California prices! Here in Missouri you can get a heck of a burger for about $6.

Beer can get up there though....used to be here in St. Louis you had two choices of beer, Budweiser or Busch, made it almost seem like there were options....but it's a much more open market these days. You can even buy Coors most places

I have used Snarks since the came out and:

None have ever been lost. I know where everyone is.
None of them have ever broken. The heads are still attached to the necks. The pads are still in place. Change the batteries and they are good to go.
The batteries seem to routinely last about six months, sometimes longer.
I use them all the time.
I am not alone in these experiences.

Yup, you are not alone in successful Snarking. That list about matches my experience, but my batteries last a bit longer (maybe nine or ten months). I've had good luck with my red Snark.

What vaporizes here is money. The dollars seem to vanish (whooosh) right out of my wallet.

Somewhat related. Today, while cleaning out a closet. I found a working Intellitouch PT 10! It was in a case I have not used in a couple years. I have lots of cases to check out now.

Ditto for me with using the Red Snark and on the second battery. I also recently lost the rubber cap on the clamp foot but they sent a free replacement in the mail. I only paid $11 US on Amazon for it in 2013.

Try clipping your Snark to your BlueChip before putting it back in the case. Either they'll both vaporize, or they'll both remain accounted for. This would be a good experiment to see which one has the more powerful hold on existence.

no problems here with the tuners vaporizing. it's those pesky little rubber caps that just disappear.

Thanks, but it wouldn't help. I always had trouble finding Waldo too.

What brand batteries are you using? I've just switched from Rayovac to Energizer..perhaps maybe these will last longer. It's a great tuner and believe it or not it will even pick up a tap note. Plus it was given to me by a great friend of mine that I enjoy jammin with :D

I used all the major brands of batteries. I can't say I have noticed any significant difference.

My experience is that it takes two simultaneous mistakes to make it eat batteries - one is to leave it in microphone position, (as opposed to vibration position), and the second is to forget to turn it off. So it sits in my gig bag trying to follow every sound it hears all night, and quickly drains the battery quickly.

Happened once, hasn't happened again and never will.

Jeff, the other similar set of mistakes is to leave it on and clipped on after you have tuned in the vibration setting. You keep playing and it keeps reading. Actually I guess it would do this in either setting. I could see batteries getting eaten that way. I turn mine on, tune, turn it off. I'm on year #3 and battery #2. I wonder if the Red, Blue, Black, etc. eat batteries differently? Seems like several of us commenting on good battery life use the Red.

I don't think the color has anything to do with it. I use a black Snark SN-8, and have never had battery problems. I clip it on, turn it on, do my tuning, turn it off, and remove it. Never gets lost, and the batteries don't die on me (unless they've been in there for many many months).

I bought a new one a few weeks ago specifically to go with my fiddle. Since I've been working on intonation, I do leave it clipped on and turned on so I can monitor it. So it does spend a lot more time turned on, but I haven't had any battery problems yet, even with it staying on and active for an hour or two a day.

    That is a good point.

Yea I take it out clip it on turn it on tune up turn it off unclip it put it away, every time.

I haven't noticed a difference in battery use by color.

I presently like the black because I perceive it to be a bit more precise and faster responding. I may be deceiving myself, but I think the algorithm is different.
