This is a redo of the Speciman Aluminum Tenor from about twenty years ago.

I loaded it here as ... I have no idea why a loaded it here. It just seemed right. I've recently had a marvelous four string short scale resonator built and this seemed like an interesting alternative ... or not.

A short article and more pix here ... http://www.specimenproducts.com/alum...ctric-mandola/ He doesn't list the scale length here but the idea is - ah - interesting.

(you could be the first on your block with one ... )

$4K is a bit on the pricey side, but it looks cool. Wonder how it sounds...

I spent a wonderful hour at Specimen Products about 10 years ago. The owner approaches his instruments as sculptures and makes some really interesting instruments.

I found the aluminum mandola/tenor very thuddy sounding. That body style would make a great bass, but it didn't sing the way I would want from a dola.

However, his peanut shaped electric mandolin is truly the finest instrument I've ever played. It was amazing visually, sonically, and in terms of playability. http://www.specimenproducts.com/electric-mandolin/

His horn speakers also sound great, especially for bowed instruments.
