Your Mandolin Your Beer

My heavy-beer drinking days are over. I've worked the last several years handling hops.
I enjoy a nice wheat beer, pilsner, or lager. I breath in hop dust all day. It's in my pores
and lungs. No IPA's for this guy. In my misguided youth I drank a lot of pitchers of
red beer. So, from time to time I'll get out my Silverangel and a cold Chelada. Country style.
'08 and '09 where the biggest years ever in hops. Nearly killed me. Literally.
Took a swan dive off a 25' stack of hop bales onto a cement floor. This year might be as
big as we put in another 5-6 thousand acres to help keep up with all the mini brewers orders.

My favorite beers of the day, and my favorite mandolin, also my favorite musical instrument du jour.



The beers have been imbibed, which limits the quality of music from the mandolin in direct proportion to the number of empty bottles. It's all good, though, because I can't tell anyway after X number of beers (X to be decided by experiment).

I prefer any local beer that is not brewed by a multinational corporation. My favorite is Potosi Cave Ale from SW Wisconsin. I play a Morris flat top A style. My playing ability diminishes greatly with beer consumption.

I was worried at first you were talking about a Rogue mandolin. Pretty scary. Good thing I reread.

Fan of the Samuel Smith line, too - Nut Brown Ale, Taddy Porter, Oatmeal Stout. Haven't had Chocolate. Nice bottles, with the long, lean look. Don't have any in the house, will present something else shortly.

First off easy on the Rogues now that's what I play, although in my defense I'm Jonesing for a new/better Mando and the Rogue was a beginner. Now that being said as for beer I'm a fan of Hell on High, don't remember the brewer but it's a high gravity like 15% If I'm not drinking that I generally go for a German Wit of some kind, definitely not a fan of hoppy beers, do love a good stout from time to time, Guinness, or Killians. Love Blue Moon, Shock Top is good to, if I'm drinking from the grocery store and not the Liquour store lol.

I just don't get you folks who don't like hoppy beers. Don't get me wrong, I too love Guinness and Murphy's stouts, some of the Scottish ales, wheat ales, German witt beers, dunkels, etc. Heck, beer is beer and is drunk for hydration as well as taste. I gotta tell ya though, the most amazing beer I ever tasted is Pliney the Elder which I had on a wine tasting trip to Napa, only available in California (or so I'm told). I'd love to get some here in Florida. Until you've tried some, you have not tasted a hoppy beer. It's practically psychedelic if you catch my drift...oh, and a big +1 to Long Trail Ale mentioned in a previous post.

Well I'm basing my judgement of hoppy beers off of Sam Adam's Hops Tour multi-pack. Now I like me some Sam but that stuff was garbage lol

I've heard about that Pliney the Elder but havent been able to try it yet. I have one called double ####### that is quite tasty and I love High-5 IPA from Terrapin in Athens Georgia.

It truly does not get any better than this...paid money...and beer...to play Bluegrass!

Fort George ( They do hire bands to play there , send your audition CD)

Astoria Brewing company http://www.wetdogcafe.com/ cafe is also a Bit slow on service ,

but the river frontage patio view in the dry summer months make that OK . (several rounds served before food gets there)

and the newest one http://www.buoybeer.com/ has a Czech Style Pilsner and

a Dutch-German style Lager , & the Poppier styles too , but is only served on Site ..

there is a Glass floor section , so you see but dont have to spell the Sea Lions that take up that space
under the old Cannery building .
