Default New picker here from PA

    Greetings all!

New mandolin player here from Pennsylvania. Lurked around the forums for a bit doing research before my first purchase. Picked up a beater yesterday at Guitar Center (Fender FM-100). This is my first foray into fretted instruments, so I've know I've got my work cut out for me. So far, so good though; worked on my G, C, and D chords today until my fingers revolted against me (definitely going to build up some calluses quickly).

Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and thank you all for the wealth of information I found here in the Cafe.

    Hi Rick,
If you are in Western PA, let me know- I can hook you up with other players, jams, and the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra (rookies encouraged!)

What style of music do you play or want to play? There's info and help on just about any style you like. You might want to consider taking that Fender to someone qualified to have it set up properly, since Guitar Center does not do anything to set up mandolins. It will make the learning process so much easier on the fingers.

+1 on the setup I've seen so many get discouraged when a set up would probably have stopped it.

Although I am a newbie here too, Rick, welcome !

I haven't been here long and have already learned a LOT.
