I thought "chord melody" was when you play a melody and harmonize each note with a chord, more or less...?

The term "chord melody" can means each note has a chord or only some do. Very rarely do you hear pianists and guitarists (traditional chord melody instruments play every note of a melody in chords. Most think it sounds better to alternate notes and chords.

Thanks Pete! I second your chord melody thoughts. There's infinite ways to go about it. For me, really, as long as the player supplies enough musical information (chords, bass lines etc) so the ear knows what's happening, I'd give it a smiley face emoticon.
