    Smile #31 a Blonde Black A4

Here is my first all blonde A4. I think it turned out pretty nice.

Engelmann spruce top and one-piece curly red maple back.

Lovely work as usual, Mike. I like the tuners, too. Who made them?

From Mike - " I think it turned out pretty nice.". Very nicely understated -i think it looks spectacular !!. I love 'blonde' mandolins, simply because they show the woods used in such a beautiful way,& that one is a stunner,

That's beautiful, Mike! Every time you show us a new mandolin, I wonder what serial number will be mine.

Got to play it yesterday before it gets shipped and that mandolin sounds GREAT. Not what I'd expect out of a new instrument. No break in required. Even my wife commented on the sound and she should be deaf by now as much as I play around the house. Very well done, Mike.

Only ever played one of these (belonging to another forum member) but it was one of the best modern A-4's I've ever heard. Also got to hear it in performance (thanks, Nick!) - excellent. Oddly enough, the other "best" modern A-4 I've encountered is also from Kansas. A Mark Franzke.... must be something in the air out there.

From your avatar, it looks like you have a Triggs. Another Lawrence, Kansas mandolin builder.
