    Default Mando-Baby

She's 14 months old now (one of my granddaughters), and ever since she was about three months old, she has shown interest in bluegrass (e.g., if she was fussy, it would quiet her down, play some Seldom Scene to put her to sleep at night, etc.). She has always perked up at sound of the Mandolin. Now any time that she can hear me playing, she comes running and dancing and loves to strum it making her own music. She's even ralized now that the left hand also is supposed to be doing something.

Just thought I'd share th pic...I thought it was pretty cool.

Maybe in 20 years she'll be the next "Thile like" female mandolinist...Or at least she'll be the proud owner of a David Harvey signed Gibson.

HaHA...Yep, I'm hoping she'll grow out of that....But if not, bluegrass has to have some bottom too.

My granddaughter is 3months old and have already told her she can have any of my mandolins except the Derstone if she learns to play.

I'm very proud that she (as well as the other nine grandchildren) have shown an interest in bluiegrass music, but she's shown an exceptional interest in mandolin. They've all shown an interest in either the guitar or (eh hemm...banjo...yes, I've been witnessed playing one of those too.)... but at any rate, at least I know I've done my part to carry on the bluegrass tradition because each of them love it...Even when they stray ?? to listen to the "stuff" that they'll be listening to as teen agers, they'll know where their roots are. It reminds me of when I was a small boy listening to my dad and his family and friends playing music on a summer evening on the porch in Watertown, Tennessee...It does my heart good to see them enjoying bluegrass at such a young age. If I leave nothing else, I've left the joy of music, what ever the genre.
