Thread: Guitar strings: Please help ID the set.

Question Guitar strings: Please help ID the set.

I have a set of D'Addario strings I cannot ID. Guitar came with the set, and they fit the instrument well.

Not the typical EJ16's, color-wise. And, measures .525-.0115 which seems close enough to the .012 set. I've looked at a bunch of other packaging, and I cannot get color codes that match. Possibly custom.
Anyone know what this set may be?
    Thanks
    -JD

You can measure the string gauges with a micrometer. That works regardless of the colors.

Did that. Interested in tension as well. Feels like there may be a slight coating too. Again, colors not consistent with any of the coated sets.

Just a thought - if they came with the guitar and you know they are D'Addario strings, could they possibly be a fake set? I have read of cheap copies being on the market, which might account for the non-standard colours on your set?

Great point, and I did check out the website which has a section on fakes. They seem to be legit. If they are the fakes, I want the fakes!

Did the seller replace the strings , they may have been corroded and dead sounding

I have strings like that with colored ends that came from a strings only website a few years ago. I'd have to look at the brand on the strings I have left.

Diadarrio Customer Service says not theirs. I will say that their service is great. Really prompt and friendly. Have not really been a heavy user in the past, but it's nice to know they are good folks. Just wish their string tensions were not so hard.

They might be Fender acoustic guitar strings. Check out the colors on the last picture shown on the top left of the page:

That's some fine detective work Alan!! All the OP needs to do is match gauges and they're good to go.
