Thanks Mandroid but I already have mandolin cases. I need a mandola case.
Never heard of Prestige cases. If you mean Presto, they are a bit out of my price range at the moment.
Nice to see two Dalek avatars in the one thread.
Mandola case is tough to find, two point mandola is next to impossible without a custom case build. I have always used Presto cases for mandola cases. The mandolas fit into their rectangular mandolin case. Expensive, but the best and if you get the measurements correct they will fit perfectly. Presto is under new ownership and their turn around times have improved. The new owner is keen to please customers. The other alternative is Cedar Creek in the USA. The cost is less than Presto, but with the Aussie $ drop there is not much difference now. If Presto is too expensive why not make one yourself.

You can enlarge the cavity in a mandolin case to fit a mandola (been there, done that). Cut the lining, peel it back, expose the padding, use a sharp knife to cut some away, reglue the lining into place after cutting off any excess.
Would work the best with a rectangular case with ample foam padding. Only dicey element IMHO is length; some of the rectangular foam cases don't leave very much "excess" at the ends.

Thanks Peter. I contacted Cedar Creek a few days ago and you're right by the time you factor in a low Aussie dollar and postage, it comes to about the same as a Presto. When did Presto change hands? Last time I contacted them (just over a year ago) it was a one man operation and he seemed a bit swamped with orders.
I won't be making one any time soon so I'll just have to save my pennies for a CC or P.
EDIT: I just had a look at Presto's facebook page. What a tiny workshop.

Maybe this is worth a shot: you are a luthier. Maybe you can get it for a wholesale price? It is worth a shot.

Presto changed hands very recently. I contacted them around 3 months ago wondering what had happened to my order since nothing seemed to be happening. Turned out that they were in the process of handing over the business. Menno contacted me some time ago asking if I knew someone who would be interested in buying the business, so he has been wanting out for a while. He just wanted to do other things. I have just received a guitar case and a mandolin case from them and I think they are the first production cases from the new owner. I visited Menno some years ago, and you are right he was a one man business getting swamped or starved of orders depending on the economic situation. The cases were built in a tin shed in his backyard, so you can imagine what it was like in the heat of summer in Perth. The new workshop looks to be much better organised.

Look at banjo cases. I had an OM that was difficult to fit and I was able to move the box thing and neck cradle piece fairly easily to make it work. My mandola is not a two point, but it fits into an old banjo case I found.

Hi Peter - Steve Gilchrist builds Mandolas. Why not e-mail him to ask what cases he uses, they may or may not turn out to be Presto cases, but at least you'll know. Other than that,i'd explore the available soft/semi-soft gig bags to see if you could buy one roomy enough for a mandola,

Mandola cases are are a tough find ...I use GWW Ameritage. For custom made they are reasonable ..< $300 for a one off and < $200 if you get 6. Shipping will probably kill deal though..they are in Costa Rica.

How bout a 1/2 size guitar case?
Steve
Is that what you use Steve?
I'll bet one of those Reunion Blues mandolin bags or soft sided cases would fit it. It would be on the borderline with my latest acquired mandola, but only because of its extreme 4"+ depth. The other dimensions would work fine with it, though. I never actually tried one, but got its measurements when thinking about it Luckily, I had a (no longer manufactured) hard case on hand that fits my mandola.

Pete,
Mandola cases are an endless headache. I'm always on the search for a better solution.

Good and bad to know Steve. Thanks.
Hi Peter
If your mandola fits 90cm x 39.5 x 16, and a padded soft case with backstraps would be OK, Swamp in Canberra have a banjo soft case and very reasonable postage for online purchase. I bought their mandolin case and very pleased with it, and have three more cases on order for family and friends. http://www.swamp.net.au/banjo-case.html
Cheers.

Peter, I have just looked at your Facebook page, and your glorious Mandola certainly deserves a better case than the humble one I've mentioned. I would have deleted my post if I could have seen how to.
All the best,
Jan
Thanks Jan. Where in the Northern Rivers region are you? One of my best friends lives in Lillian Rock. It's my favourite part of the country.
