Thread: Delighted with my Robson Tuners

Default Delighted with my Robson Tuners

My new custom mandolin arrived with StewMac tuners that I hated from the moment I opened the box, so I had to source alternatives. After a lot of deliberation I went upmarket, and ordered new ones from Keith Robson Tuning Machines in England. (That link goes to his Facebook page; his new website is under construction and won't go live until the beginning of December).

Fitting them was relatively straightforward, although it did require the filling and re-drilling of four screw holes, which was a little daunting. The tuning post spacing is the standard 23mm, and the tuners (and their very sweet bushings) went into place with next to no work required.

Keith was a delight to work with, answering my many questions promptly and informatively. His tuners are beautifully crafted, high-end items that have transformed the instrument which, with the original tuners, was painfully difficult to tune and almost impossible to keep in tune. Highly recommended.

Glad to hear that the fitting went well Ron. Now, what do we do with two sets of used GA tuners?

If I was a fishing guy, I'd make them into fishing weights. I certainly wouldn't allow them anywhere near a mandolin.

Thumbs up Re: Delighted with my Robson Tuners

Do you know if he does the traditional F-style (staggered shaft length, worm-under-cog) tuner sets, too?

I'm fairly sure Keith makes all kinds of tuners, F5s included. This photo is from his Facebook page.

I have recently been in contact with a well-known quality custom builder who is so pleased with the Robsons he has used on recent custom builds that he considers Robsons better than Waverlies. High praise.

What's the fastest way to contact him? Via FB perhaps?
    BTW, who made your mandolin?

I think through Facebook is best at the moment. His website is under construction. I have his email address, but should probably not give that out without his permission. If anyone wants to email him, they can PM me and I'll forward their email addresses to Keith. NFI on my part - just pleased to recommend a craftsman doing fine work.

RE: the maker. I have sent you a PM.

Keith's business email, which I don't think he'd mind me giving out, is -tuningmachines@aol.com

Again, NFI simply another satisfied customer but don't expect to order today and receive them next week; they're all made specifically to order.

    Those Robson's look very nice!

How much do a pair of A style Robson tuners go for?
... not all those who wander are lost ...

Best to email Keith using the address above, John. Prices vary depending on engraving or no engraving.

What Ron said - response to emails are usually quite quick. Mine, un-engraved, cost significantly less than an imported set of Waveleys would have but I think Keith was doing an introductory deal at the time I ordered them.
