Nice. Can anyone translate this to solo mandolin and post it here? I can't read music but I can follow hands! My daughter loves this song and the movie.
This banjo version moved me to tears:

Yikes! That is one of the most awful things I've heard in a LONG time! The banjo version, that is, not yours, Giuseppe. Though I must say, I agree with f5loar - it would be nice to hear a solo mandolin version. Do you think you could work up a mandolin version? In fact, it would be nice if you would share more mandolin videos. Even though a lot of your guitar videos are nice, this is a mandolin forum. I think more people would enjoy and learn more from mandolin videos. Grazie!

Banjo bashing aside, great job Giuseppe, very moving. Thanks for sharing.

What I got from the banjo version is there really is a huge difference between a Gibson Mastertone banjo and "other" banjos! I think Earl knew the difference.
No doubt his axe was lacking the finer points of response and resonant pleasantness but I don't know if even a Mastertone could have put that pig in flight.

Beautiful guitar playing ... thank you for sharing.

Thumbs up on the classical guitar version.
The banjo version was out of tune and needed to be about 50% faster tempo, though it wasn't really meant to be a happy BG type melody to be frank. Also there are a lot of long notes in the song which demand sustain, which even a well-tuned banjo isn't noted for. At least a mando version could put some tremolo in there to make up for the sustain.
The violin version is available on Music Notes (www.musicnotes.com) It is in the key of F major or its relative minor, I believe. (I didn't get the full piece so I could not see where it resolves to) I was messing around with it on my mandolin and actually it sounds pretty nice. I did not check the movie score to see what the actual native key was. Anyway, for those on this post asking for a mandolin version, this is a good place to start.

Hello again. I was just noodling around with the violin version I found on Music Notes. I think I will purchase it for $ 2.95 and put it into TablEdit. Some of the notes in the base clef might work as background if I can reach them along with the melody line (I am NOT an advanced player !). It does sound pretty good in normal tremolo and I would expect some you advanced players out there can fix up some pretty sexy double stops and cross picked chords for this song. Since this song is copyrighted, I am not sure if we can share versions on the internet, but as I understand it, we can do it privately as friends only, as long as it is not published or played publicly without permission. I was going to look up the actual movie sound track and see what key it was written in. It has been so long since I saw the movie, but I do faintly remember thinking that the theme song was in an unusual key, which no doubt enhances the semi tragic theme of the story. I am not a music score expert so I am sure others on this site have better insight into this. I love this Café site, just for things like this--people thinking out loud, sharing, and having a conversation !

Very nice, Giuseppi!
In keeping with the banjo humor here, perhaps if they'd had a banjo player on deck that night the Carpathia would have certainly heard it (from miles away) and come sooner to rescue all those poor souls...

Dear friends,
Thank you very much all those who appreciated my arrangement and my performance! Regarding the fact that I posted almost exclusively threads with the guitar (and a few with the mandolin) this is true and I apologize if some people of the group does not like this and they would (perhaps rightly) see only movies that relate to the mandolin. But I am primarily a guitarist and I play the mandolin only occasionally ... But I promise I'll be back soon to post something for solo mandolin!
Greetings from Sicily to all!
Giuseppe
Giuseppe, there are several of us that enjoy your videos, both guitar and the occasional mandolin. If the owner of the site has a problem with your videos I am sure he will make it known. Until then we will keep watching and waiting for the next one.
