One of these Peavey's is up on the bay now. In determining which of the two old threads to resurrect I chose this one because there was some mention of the plate that the tuners are attached to - "Peavey's exclusive Powerplate."

And it's going pretty cheap. Here's the specs on that listing:

    Composer® Mandolin
Combining classic styling with modern features, the Peavey Composer Mandolin features a mahogany body and neck with a solid spruce top and rosewood fingerboard. The Composer mandolin features Peavey's exclusive Powerplate, an innovative new technology that increases sustain and virtually eliminates dead spots on the fretboard. The Powerplate is mounted using the machine heads and increases the amount of string vibration energy projected by the instrument.

Mahogany body with solid spruce top
    Mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard
    Chrome hardware
    Adjustable floating rosewood bridge
Traditional neck shape with glued-in, set neck joint and flat fingerboard radius
    14 Scale length
    1.06 Nut width
    Vintage-style open machine heads
    Chrome mandolin tailpiece
Exclusive Peavey Powerplate technology increases sustain

They are being sold by Peavey. "5 available, 16 sold" I wonder if they are liquidating these or they are still in their line. You never see these in stores.

I highly recommend them for the price even if its not the power plate.

I still play mine at sessions and just noodling (unless the kids are sleeping).

All kinds if fun for a buck and a half.

Does the power plate make a difference?

I like the idea of the longer scale length.

I originally bought it because I thought the case was going to be nice. I assumed (wrongly) that the mandolin would be of Rogue quality and playability.

The case was junk (Styrofoam wrapped in black pantyhose) but the mandolin was stellar, not to mention pretty cool looking. Mine has turned a few heads. There aren't many out there. After I bought mine, I hadn't seen them again anywhere.
