I never liked using gauze. If the split is tight just gluing with hide glue should hold. If you think it needs more support my suggestion would be a small cleat(.020 thick or so) glued cross grained rather than gauze.

    Okay thats good advice ,
this Harmony has some kind of fabric on the braces or cleats so that was where i got the idea.
    thanks,

Hide glue is fine, but if the crack is tight and new so that it is barely visible, a touch of water-thin CA (superglue) will wick right into the crack and it's done. That can be done at the inside edge of f-hole cracks (they're pretty common) so that no superglue gets on the outside surface.

If you feel a cleat is needed, why not an opposite grained very thinned down (about as thin as cereal box cardboard) cleat? Like a piece of tape made out of wood.

I like the CA idea. It is a new small crack. Thanks

Linen patches tend to be used on long cracks. If glue will hold it on its own that is a btter way to go. CA is easy to use but if the crack comes back it can make later repairs more difficult.
