    Post mandolin neck extended

I want to build a solid body electric mandolin and I received a used mandolin neck.

Unfortunately the neck was built too short, the heel reaches only to the 9th fret.

Now, can the neck be spliced and extended to the 12 fret where it attaches to the body?

How to be done? Please help.

Probably will be less work to make a new neck from scratch.

I think Bill Snyder is correct. But don't let that stop you from making it happen. Certainly it can be done.

Thanks guys, I am pressed for time. Our band will be playing in September on a musical 'grandes festus' of 20 bands and I want to give colour and spice to the occasion.

I am going to give it a go to extend the neck.
I have a pal that will help me, in fact , it is the person who built my Monteleone copy on my avatar.

Dowels and biscuits, here we come.

Here is the extended neck (maple), with the original heel sawn off.
The neck is made of local Boekenhout ( Rapanea melanophloeos)

By Friday I will start tackling the body.

Funny the long headstock, but is how I got it. Gibson must have known something when they built the Super 400 in 1934.

Ok, here is my watermelon electric guitar with the extended neck in its case.

It worked out nicely with the neck holding out well.
Band picture of my first gig is posted elsewhere.
