"The Crooked Road" in Southwest Virginia

My wife and I are wanting to travel the "Crooked Road" in the fall, celebrating 1/2 century together.

Has anyone on the forum visited this area in Virginia recently, specifically for the music? Any information will be appreciated. I'm ordered the book by Joe Wilson about the area in a few minutes.

Great neck of the woods. Watch for anything with Wayne Henderson, Gerald Anderson or and/or Spencer Strickland's name attached to it. Take a little jaunt to Floyd. The Joe Wilson Book covers it pretty well. At the North end of things Lexington and Staunton are really sweet towns to poke around. You'll have a blast.

Glad you're getting the book, as it's stuffed with info. Staunton is a nifty place, so if you're there be sure to go downtown to Fretwell's, on Beverly St (the main west-east street, which which runs one way in that direction). It always has a minimum of 30 upright basses in stock...from aluminum to plywood to hybrid.

Head to Floyd, VA and the Floyd Country Store. There is also Floyd Fest July 23 - 27. Top notch.
