Anyone out there with access to Apples' App Store should check out Pitchlab, a downloadable tuner app that is fantastic. The basic app,is a free download. To upgrade to the full featured tuner is a whopping $2.99. Trust me, you will not be disappointed, and you will be amazed.

There are also several free tuners available for Android users.

I have this app for Android... And I agree it's one of the most useful apps any musician could have. I love the fact that it has a chord analyzer and how you can tune multiple notes at a time!

Thanks, Mando. I am all about Apple products, but my phone is an Android. It's like a tuner in my pocket. Awesome.

Pitchlab is the daddy! I've used it for the guitar for ages, and now for mandolin....the amount of instruments it has settings for (and tunings) is impressive...some of these instruments i've never heard of

Pitchlab is a solid app, but I think I prefer the tuning algorithm Cleartune uses. I also prefer how Cleartune is setup, but Pitchlab offers some additional features. They are both inexpensive, so I am happy to have each one.

Edit: I take back the comment about preferring the Cleartune algorithm. I fired out that reply from memory, but I decided to just to a quick comparison. Pitchlab on the strobe page does seem quite good and a bit better than Cleartune. That said, I will add that the interface and look of Pitchlab annoys the hec out of me, so I hope they improve that.

Danny Gatton was 30+ years ahead of the curve. Back in the 80's he used a (land line, of course) telephone dial tone to tune his guitar. He said it was an F.

+ 1 for the Cleartune app. It's very sensitive and accurate, yet the indicator moves in such a way that you can get it centered up pretty easily. I like that it has a sort of old-time analog tuner kind of look to it.

I tried this app when changing strings today. Very nice, best of the tuner apps I have tried.

A tuning fork can also act as a swizzle stick and hold two olives for your martini and with luck will last several thousand years. No batteries needed.
