Chords to all these Dylan tunes and many more are readily available on the net. Not always 100% correct, but they're out there for free.

I was kind of wondering what distinguishes the Dylan mandolin chord book from the Dylan guitar chord book?

I bought this in the UK about two weeks ago. The good thing about it is the selection of songs - realy useful. Nicey laid out etc. I like it.

Have you noticed there are no books about singing like Bob Dylan?

I'm a huge Dylan fan, but as David Bowie said, "Dylan's singing is like sand and glue."

I think one reason Dylan songbooks are so popular is that you can buy one, learn the tunes and actually sound better than the original artist!

Wow! I thought the original book idea was a bit ridiculous; the idea that this seller thinks they can get $800 for one is just crazy.

No disrespect to the publisher, the author, and the folk who love this book ... personally, I can't see the attraction if it's just a chord book, labeled "mandolin" ... A Dylan fan will have records, or know songs, can find chords by ear or in various places on the web. The best exhaustive resource I know of is the 1,098 page PDF by Eyolf Østrem, which attempts to catalog every recorded version of Dylan's song chords and lyrics including many live performances.

$800 for a book with lyrics and chords?

Mark, I have to agree with you that this is just plain silly. I saw a PDF version of the book online and the book was no different than a similar book for guitar. The only difference was the mandolin cord diagrams for the cords used in the song were placed at the top of each song. Additionally the book is only 80 pages so it cannot contain more than 30 songs.

Nice to have the words n chords in the same place, and I like a lot of the guy’s songs.

But, Oh no this is one of my pet peeves. (I’m thinking not for myself, but for the millions of kids who want to pick up the mando)

I’m surprised, that there isn’t a REAL REAL mandolin songbook, in fact very few exist, a book with just two or three lines of notation AND tab which are in scrap NOTE form of the main riffs and melody. Really, it doesn’t have to be the whole score for orchestra written by a pianist. Just valuable scraps of musical ideas.

I wondered if it was writers who didn’t know how to summarize, musically speaking, but now I wonder if it’s some sort of copyright issue - a summary, a good one, is another person’s creation, defined by the musical priorities of the reader. Why didn’t this happen? After all, there are some really good music writers about.

Oh well it’s back Youtube and the internet.
