Thread: Voight 14 and 17

    Default Voight 14 and 17

Here are my two latest mandolins. Three point #14 is owned by Tyler Andal, a local and very talented multi instrumentalist. I am please to say that #17 will be staying in my hands for a while as my main axe. Both mandolins have red spruce tops and red maple backs. The top on #14 is considerably more flexible. That coupled with the one piece back yielded a more dark and base responsive instrument.

Below, you will find some pictures, audio, and video recordings. The audio was recorded last night with a condenser mic into Pro Tools. You will notice a touch of reverb but there were no alterations made to the EQ. Both mandolins are roughly 8 weeks old. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to some audio of #17. The last 3 tracks were played by my good friend Travis Burch.

That is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The stretch he gets with his thumb is eye opening!

    Nice mandolins as usual!

Oh and one more. Tyler send me these clips of the three point last night. I wish I could put them up there with the other clips but it isn't letting me edit my previous post.

I've gotten to play both of these mandolins at length, and they are incredible. The things that always stand out to me in Dan's mandolins are the playability and complexity of tone. There's just quite a lot going on, sound-wise, from day one in all of his instruments. In a very good way. And his set up is spot on, with a comfortable action and great intonation. Thanks for sharing the photos and clips.

ps, Dan can also play the hell out of these fine instruments.

Are you going to Swannanoa this year? Can't make it, but it looks like as good a time as ever.

Finishing this batch out of order for various reasons. It's just how it worked out.

That's really fine workmanship there Dan. I love the wood colours & grain,& the black binding against the dark body colour on the 3-point looks really rich - it also has my very favourite fingerboard inlay,
