Ukulele Underground is pretty good. https://ukuleleunderground.com/
Ukulele underground seems to be quite popular.
There's a list of uke forums here: http://ukulelehunt.com/2007/08/25/ukulele-forums/
I find Ukulele Underground the most comprehensive, its a friendly place with lots of info on ukuleles.
Ii just tried to join Ukulele Underground, to find one must PAY MONEY ($10 to $15 -- per month) to be a member. I belong to Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum and Mandolin Cafe -- both for free, of course.
Somehow, paying for U U rubs me the wrong way. Also, now I appreciate UMGF and M/C a lot more!!
No, UU is totally free. I'm a member and fairly active there. I'm guessing that what you saw had to do with signing up for online classes through Ukulele Underground. To sign up for the forum, go here: http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/
Ukulele Underground is a GREAT forum, full of really helpful people and more information than you could ever want. Highly recommended.
You don't have have pay anything to use the UU forum. That is for lessons and other content.
There really isn't much out there for ukuleles, at least I don't think. I'd say Uke Underground is probably the best. Like Douglas said, you don't have to pay to use the forum. The paid part of the site is for their lessons and learning materials. You can cruise the forum without a paid membership.

I like UU too.
And it’s a different crowd, and apologies if I seem too critical.
There’s a huge amount of information on it, great, but it’s spread out and difficult to wade through.
They seem more sociable than the mandolinists (ooops!) but this lends less well to an internet forum.
Also if you look at the layout, at least half of each post is consigned to the member’s photo, and their links and other details. Sometimes I see only 3-4 lines of jocular text on the whole screen that is new communication. It makes me want to shut down and go party, play some tunes.
The info is fun, less technical and there is a tendency to diverge.
Jim Beloff's Flea Market Music isn't bad; I used to post there now and again.
