I've been to the Old Town Pickin Parlor in Denver several times in the past few months. They have an '84 Steve Andersen Mandola made with Koa wood that blows my mind every time I play it. I'll never be able to afford it, so I'm passing on the info for someone who might be in the market. (No financial interest at all--I just like the mandolin and the store). It has an incredibly sweet, mellow, open sound. I'm a music shop junkie (because I can't afford the good instruments) and I've had more fun with this instrument than any other I've ever played. Great volume and is very easy to play. It does look slightly better than in the pictures they posted, though it's still not the best looker. Great craftsmanship, just not the coolest finish/design, IMO. For sound and playability though--truly amazing. Website is www.picknparlor.com.
