    Default 2 gathright mandolins

i've recently had the enjoyable task of setting up two of john gathright's mandolins. one is owned by a student the other by a friend/client. both instruments are really fine and a joy to play.

Charlie I think that Gathright F4 & 1/2 was one I almost pulled the trigger on a few years back when it was new. Here's some pics when I was studying it a little. I was really looking for an oval hole mandolin for some old-time pickin' sound. This one was nice and really could be played easily for bluegrass or OT but I chose the 1918 A4 I still own today. Gathrights are fine mandolins!

I'd have to look back and make sure but I think the F5 style might be 44. The oval hole was built in 2008.

I haven't seen two Gathright mandolins together in the same room since, well, this morning when I left home. But it's always pretty cool deal no matter!

Little Sister is on the left Elmer is on the right. Elmer lives with me and my friend Linda made a home for Little Sister. We told Linda that her mandolin had to have a name so she chose Little Sister. It seems to fit her because she plays and sounds really sweet. I didn't ask Linda old Little Sister is "not proper to ask the age of a lady" but I think they are close to the same age so we consider them brother and sister. Elmer is a 2000 model which I was lucky enough to beg away from my friend and John Gathright's cousin Elmer Grathright. I have known Mr Elmer for years. He lives here in Heber Springs. It just felt right to name the mandolin Elmer. I have not got to meet John yet but everyone says he is a great guy. It must run in the family because so is his cousin Elmer. I think Elmer will be with me a long time! I keep trying to steal Charlie White mandolin licks but he goes toooo fast
