I recently heard part of a cd entitled Celtic Mandolin. I thought it was great. What else should I listen to for this style of music?
THANKS!

THANKS!
Dan Beimborn's Shatter the Calm
and
Michael Kerry's The Rocky Road
It doesn't get much better than these 2. Dan's is great in its complexity, and Michael's is great in its simplicity.
Thanks for the recommendations. Are these guys in some type of ensemble or is it just solo mandolin pieces?
Other MC regulars with great mando-centric Celtic recordings include Dagger Gordon and Kevin MacLeod. Both of their recordings can be located at www.musicscotland.com.
Estne volumen in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre?
Robin Bullock has some nice stuff. He's a multi-instrument player -guitar and mando family.
Mick Moloney, No Strings Attached is another good one.
Cheers,
Mark
The 2 i mentioned are solo albums (multitracked). Dan plays an assortment of mandolins, bouzoukis and mandolas, and Kerry plays mandolin and guitar.Originally Posted by (squeally dan @ Mar. 07 2005, 15:06)
There is some nice mandolin in the Border Collies Unleashed album.
Actually mine doesn't have any multitracking of the lead except for the first track (unless I've forgotten something).. though some wasn't recorded live/simultaneously- the cuts with Zan backing were done by mail order!
Hey squeally dan... check this out !!!

Also, on the Cafe's on mp3 page. John Muir's Passion.
Don't forget to listen the Scottish jigs by Kevin Macleod here in the mando mp3s section.
As opposed to Zen backing, which is the sound it makes when somebody plays in the woods and nobody is listening.Originally Posted by (danb @ Mar. 08 2005, 11:56)
I don't have the CD with me, but i think you accompany yourself in a few tracks, no? It's probably time to give it another listen (soon, on my drive home).
They have a huge load of celtic on elderly. Search celtic mandolin and im sure you will find a huge load of good stuff. www.elderly.com
Well some of the 10-string zook stuff is a conscious attempt to pretend I'm accomapnying myself as I play it...
The first track I play zook & mandolin.. studio trickery. Most of the rest is either zook with me playing chords under melody and/or solo instrumental with backing by Zan or Paul K..
Yes, i listened to it again, tonight. Amazing playing. May induce inferiority complex on listener. Caveat emptor.
