Default Brand New Player Looking for the Right Instrument

    Hello All,

I have never played an instrument of any kind but I'd really like to learn how to play the mandolin. I'm looking for an A style in the price range of 150-300 dollars so that I can get an instrument that is not top of the line but will suit my needs as a beginner and be a quality instrument. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Thanks,

    Brian

A one post thread......you can close it now, lol.

BTW TMS has them too for the same price if you prefer less goodies and a hard case instead.

Yep, hard to beat either of those deals. More important than the instrument is the set-up, which both of those stores do very well...resist the temptation to find a cheaper one on eBay or Musicians Friend or wherever online. The savings aren't worth the headache of either trying to play with the high action they come from china with, or having to find a set-up guy who knows what he's really doing in a store you didn't buy from in the first place. I experienced both in the same instrument...and, whatever you save on price from the big box store, you'll spend (and possibly more if it's an eBay disaster) on set up anyway.

    Btw, welcome!
