OK, where is the thread on this? Seems to me someone got a very good deal on his main Red Diamond F5 if that price was correct. I hope everything works out OK for Johnny, seems like a real down to earth guy and a fantastic player for sure.

Whoops, seems it is not "on hold" anymore? Just when I thought my MAS was cured....

I think this is the one.
Sounds "Dave Apollonesque"...very nice sounding mando, $5500 is a nice price as well...

Anyone know what the original MSRP was on the Reischman-voiced Red Diamond he's selling? Bet it's a good one, based on all the other specially-voiced RD's I've had the pleasure of hearing.
$20,000

What would a F5 standard sell for ? Still being made ?
There's a new one (I think it's new) at Morgan Music for $13,500 http://www.morganmusic.com/red_diamn...39&id=18954925
... not all those who wander are lost ...
some of them just are voiced like Reischman,Crusher,Boobys Fern etc ,5 each were made as replicas signed by the artist whos mandolin was copied

I've heard Johnny play that standard Red Diamond up close at IBMA….man, if the funds were available it would be gone, gone, gone. Someone's going to get a phenomenal, "distressed" mandolin!
My question is...what is Staats playing now?
RB - (Wolfman Bob)
Lawrence Smart - 2 Point
Flatiron - F5 - Artist
Gibson - F12
Gibson - A-50
Flatiron - Pancake
Fender FM 60 E
When Staats made his "splash" and first album, I think he was playing one of Pete Hart's Buckeye mandolins.
Russ Jordan
Yes, Russ has it right.
Wires & Wood hit the scene like a runaway freight train.
W&W is still one of my favorite CDs he has done.
i think he has one by Lee Chapman

I hope the lucky dog that snagged it will come on and give us a report and some pics/sound clips…
Yes, I'm very happy to say that Johnny did buy a mandolin from me last year and it is a thrill for me to hear him playing it. But of course it is amazing to watch and hear him playing any instrument. Who ever purchased the Red Diamonds got a piece of music histroy for sure and it will make for a good conversation piece!
Johnny is still a playing Vintage RD. He did sell his #140 standard. I had a chance to play this mandolin a few weeks ago and it was really good the finish on the back was completely gone off the back from sweating. I also think the guy who got this mandolin has a true piece of history. The standard sounded real nice but Dons new vintage mandolins are crazy awesome.
There is an awesome Red Diamond Vintage July 9, '23 in the Classifieds. I've played this mando and it is spectacular in all respects. Don has nailed it. (no financial interest, btw)
