My dream would be to own the 'Crusher Voiced' (modeled after Grisman's Loar) Red Diamond F-5. I think any Bluegrasser, hard core or otherwise would be proud of it.

Talk to the store and get a return policy. I've played stellar examples of the Reischamn and Crusher voicings.

Yes, I believe there are few hardcore bluegrassers who would turn up their nose at any of those.
The website is here (it's lovely):

Red Diamond mandolins are one of the varieties of mandolins I have not yet had an opportunity to play. I keep looking. Their reputation is stellar. Luck... R/
I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...
Thanks for all the friendly advice looks like I under estimated the price a little
More like $13500.
website indicates both the Crusher and Reischman replica models were limited editions and sold out. Is Don making more of these models?

I suspect there might be one or two threads about these mandolins on the site

Stumbling Towards Competence
Red Diamonds are amazing instruments. My Crusher-voiced Vintage '22 F-5 is truly special.
My advice to the OP is to do what you can to get a Crusher- or Reischman-voiced Vintage model (A or F). A better mandolin you cannot buy.
Reischman's mandolin has the best tone of any I've heard so far. Of course a lot of that is because Reischman was playing it. Hard to believe someone could achieve an intentional copy of it with so many factors at play. I would love to buy one if I hit the lottery some day (which will be never as I don't play).
I hope you will post clips of your red diamond when you get it.
Cant imagine any bluegrasser or any mandolinist not being thrilled with one.
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.
I have a Vintage F 24 and a Vintage A 22. They are both great but different. The 24 is brighter with a vibrant E string. In general it really cuts through in a multi instrument jam. The 22 is just a touch darker and more even across the spectrum. They both have lots of headroom and are solid way up the neck. Don knows his stuff and I highly recommend any of his mandolins. My personal favorite is the Vintage 24. You can hear my RDs on my "mandothumper" YouTube channel.
It better sound good, it's about three times the price of my truck.
I have purchased a RD Vintage 22 A style and it is a real nice mandolin. I also play a Buckeye. Both are great mandolins. Buckeye is a deeper chopping mandolin but not as good on the highs. The RD is clear and full everywhere on the neck.
Red Diamond Vintage 24 A
Buckeye #56
I think Don is going to start a new batch soon
I play a F5 Vintage and it's absolutley one of the finest mandolins ive ever had in my hands. If your looking to purchase a great mandolin you really need to check all his vintage mandos out. Ive played all the Vintage and Signature models and I really like the July 9 voicing. My good freind has a Vintage 22 that is also killer. I love em all!!!!!!!
Red Diamonds are top notch
you cant go wrong with one
