Default Chris Eldridge and Dominick Leslie - Church Street Blues

I'm pleased to share my latest video production with my friends at the Cafe (thanks Scott Tsai, for helping w the camera work). Dominick has just recently moved to Brooklyn and I was so impressed by his casual performance with Chris Eldridge a few weeks ago. The occasion was a 30th anniversary party for Retrofret, the vintage shop that I do some work for - and the release of a new Martin book and the exhibition of Martin guitars that just opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dominick has such a great sense of line and throws some crazy rhythmic complexity into his playing (you'll see that even more if I get to share their Watson's Blues). I think you'll enjoy this Norman Blake song, made famous by Tony Rice - and what could be more appropriate for a Martin Guitar event???

I'm a big fan of his mando playing. He gets a bit too lost in the Deadly Gentlemen sound (at least on the album) for me. I love his playing on Grant Gordy's album.

Dominick plays a really sweet Gilchrist! I have the particulars on it around here somewhere.

Will get to work on more videos! Thanks for the kind words, all.

If you're a little obsessive about bluegrass flatpickers, you may well have seen these two videos of Church Street Blues already.

Norman Blake, from his Homespun instructional video. I think he chose to 'teach' his song in a different key than the recording that most of us know - but that seems to be a characteristic of his. Off the cuff - never the same way once!

And here's Tony Rice's approach different enough to really put his own stamp forever on the song:

Man, what a right hand Eldridge has! Relaxed, absolute precision. Beautiful!

    Wow, thanks for this posting!

First off it just reinforces my notion of how well the mandolin and guitar suit each other in a duet setting. These two have that relaxed style of playing that suit this song so well. Really nice to hear Critter sing too!

Hey! I messed up in post 9 above! I meant to imbed Tony Rice's classic video of Church Street rather than a second copy of Critter and Dominick! Here you go, for any completists out there.
