Default Thinking about coming to PT for the Choro workshop?

Here's a great version of Dudu Maia and band cookin on "Ponteio" Ensemble playing is what to expect. We will have a wide variety of musicians, from clarinet, flute, piano, mandolin, guitar and more. Hope to see you there. The late night jams are worth the admission alone. From this video, Dudu, Duuglas and his brother Alexander are all going to be back teaching, along with Anat Cohen on clarinet and Jovino Santos Neto on flute and piano, and well, everything else. This is one of the most incredible thrown together bands you will ever see. We hope that if you can't make the workshop, and you are in the area, you will come up for the instructor concert. Choro is hot.

Yeah, someday I'd like to get back, too.

Especially with Dudu there. Fantastic teacher, great guy.

What he's done with Caraivana just gets better every time you listen!

We are now just under 50 days out on the Choro workshop at Port Townsend. If you still want to go, it's probably a good time to sign up. We have a good group already. Still have openings.

Where do the students stay while in the workshop? At the Fort, or in town? That is, are they on their own, or is lodging part of the fee?

They can stay at either. There are wonderful renovated officer's quarters there. They are very comfortable and allow you the comfort of not having to leave at 3 am, having drunk a bunch of wine and jammed until you dropped, and then drive home. Also the meal package is served at the houses in the evening and the main dining hall at lunch.

This is what Centrum provides for the "housing" fee. But there are motels in town and many bed and breakfasts also. Some people are staying in private homes.

If you can afford to stay at the fort, it's really the preferred option. But I understand that some folks need to cut costs as best as they can. That's why we broke it into ala carte.

Here's the song list that the instructors will be focusing on. We didn't "use" all these last year, but having all the charts allowed us to practice leading up to the workshop, and be better prepared for the late night jams, and some of the classes. Other songs will be played, this is just a list to get started from. There are still a couple of slots left, for mandolin or guitar. For those thinking of coming but unsure of your skills, there will be entry level, midrange player, and advanced player tracks. It's all challenging since it really relies on your ability to read at some level, there are no tab versions of these songs, but it's not something to get stressed out about. if you do basic slow reading, you'll fit in. We will be doing a slow jam after dinner for those wanting to get started. You will be welcome to play chords for that if you wish.
