    Default Miami Beach Rhumba/Tango Appassionato

Ive been playing around with some tunes from Sheri Mignano's great book "Mandolin Melodies" today. Here are two fairly easy but very evocative Latin dance tunes arranged by Sheri for mandolin and guitar and recorded by me today on a Mid-Missouri M-0W mandolin with tenor guitar backing.

    1) Miami Beach Rhumba (Irving Fields):

This was a big hit for Fields in 1946, when he was a lounge pianist at Miami's Versailles Hotel -- he is still performing now, at age 98! This is still his best-known tune and there are several very good recordings on Youtube.

    2) Tango Appassionato (Luigi Paparello):

There are several tunes with this name, but this one was an original composition for mandolin orchestra by Paparello (1885-1979) -- as far as I can see, there are no other online recordings of this tango. Falls very nicely under the fingers and is just fun.

    Thanks for the arrangements, Sheri!
