Default Better to ____ than to ____

I encourage you all to contribute to this list. Here's the first entry.

Better to spray mandolin polish on ones' face than makeup setting spray on ones' mandolin. Luckily, I found out the way that could be washed off my face.

It's better to play the mandolin badly than to play the banjo well?

Call me "Off Topic," but I've actually been to the banjo well.

Tiz better to add to the banjo well, than to draw from it.

OK, I'll bite. What is "makeup setting spray?"

    Making a short story long...
Back when people used quill pens, it was common practice to sprinkle a powder on the drying ink to speed drying and to act as a fixative. Artists who work in pastels, charcoal, and other "smudgeable" media use spray fixatives to make their art more smudge resistant.

Makeup needs to be "set" in similar fashion to keep it from coming off or smudging. There are powders and sprays. I use a spray.

    Thanks

Several mandolins of varying quality-any one of which deserves a better player than I am.......

And I'm looking to pick up the banjo. Maybe it fits my personality better than the mandolin, who knows.

    Anyhow...

Better to have fun with what you're playing than to worry about what you're playing.
