Thread: Crosspicking Christmas (in GDAD)

    Default Crosspicking Christmas (in GDAD)

Here are my arrangements of Joy to the World and I Saw Three Ships, both using GDAD tuning and crosspicking techniques. If anyone else uses GDAD mandolin tuning, I'd love to hear about what your doing (including hearing any clips.

Sounds great. Love your arrangements. What mandolin are you playing?

F-2 Dave - I do have them handwritten in standard notation. I can e-mail you copies if you're interested.

I played some Christmas Carols on a Bouzouki - GGDDAADD - last year - mix of chordal strums and crosspicking...

Can anybody post a link of the OP's playing just plain in the text box you normally type in? for some reason, when people imbed links, my screen reader won't pick up on them.

Mark, those were great versions, I love the sound of "droning" open strings on mandolin!

I really like your playing, very nice GDAD tuning is fun. I've only used it to try and work on a Tool song.

Several people have requested sheet music for I Saw Three Ships. I am attaching - hopefully successfully - the music below. The tuning for this piece is GDAD (highest string[s] tuned down a whole step to D). The D drones with the flags pointed up are to be played on the open (high) D string (with up-strokes). Everything with the flag pointed down is to be played on the lower 3 (GDA) strings. (In the section with double-stops and chords, everything is played on the lower 3 strings. No high D drone in that section.) I will also post the sheet music for Joy to the World sometime soon.

JH Murray and TheArimathean - The problem is on my end. Sorry. I will try again to embed. Not sure what is wrong. If it doesn't work, I can send you PDF's via e-mail.

Problem identified: it seems the embedded JPEG images are appearing as black screens, but the PDF works perfectly and all is well.
