    Default Bela Fleck encounter

My son had a really cool week at college. He is a music composition major at Baldwin-Wallace University, and his comp. prof, Dr. Clint Needham, thinks outside the box and stretches the students. So this week he invited Bela Fleck to come and do a master class and concert, in conjunction with Akron University. So my son was able to not only meet Bela, but write a short piece for him and the Brooklyn Rider string quartet he is playing with right now (they are part of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road project as well, excellent players all).

He had a great time. Here is a pic of him looking over the piece as Bela and the guys play through it --

What a treat for your son! Both to meet Bela Fleck and hear his own composition played. Really special.

A great story Kirk. It must have been a real buzz for your son to not only meet Bela, but to write a piece for him - that's something special indeed. All your son needs now is for his invite Chris Thile along next time. That could be a real mind bender !,
