    Smile New Mandocello Day!!!!

My friend Sam Picotte built me this beautiful guitar-bodied mandocello that I just received!

    All solid
Honduran Beeswing Mahogany back and sides
    Carpathian Spruce top
    Claro Walnut rosette/binding, headstock.
    mini-Gotoh 510 tuners
K and K pure mini pickup

It is gorgeous and sounds awesome - I'll try and do a recording soon!

This is a lovely instrument. Some of the detail work is quite innovative and very well done. The headstock design is very nice. The fingerboard binding is too.
I'd like to hear a clip of this.

Wish I could see the picture, but, enjoy the mandocello. Think you could do bach cello suite no.1 prelude on it? always have loved that tune, and what better instrument to play it on.

I just did a quick recording - no reverb, just a little compression

Keep in mind I've only been a mandocello player for a day and a half.......

Cool Adam - can you tell us your string gauges?

I'm tempted to get one...but I'm addicted to my 12-strings!

Hey catmandu2 - they are the D'addario mandocello strings - J78s - it was a lot of "fun" attaching the ball ends.........

    so the gauges are .022 - .034 - .048 - and .074

Very nice instrument. you might do your friend a favor and post his web site... all right I will do it... Picotte Guitars.

That is a pain to put ball ends on 8 strings every time you have to restring it but the flat-top guitar design warrants it for that tone. I wonder if there was a way to use that style of bridge with loopend strings. I see that Ovation mandocelli owners have the same problem.

Hey... I just noticed this on Martin Stillion's site: ball-end mandocello strings.

I am curious about some specs: scale length and width of fretboard at the nut

Hey thanks Jim - I would have posted it but I didn't know if I could.... so thank!

Scale length is 24.75 and the nut width is 1.5

I had looked at those strings before, but I can get the D'addarios for $10 and I wanted the thicker C strings .074 instead of .070
After I got the hang of it, adding the ball-ends wasn't that bad.
