    Default Made In USA?

Since the late 1980's /early 19990's it seems almost everything is made in Asia. What brands of mandolins are Made in the USA?

Check out Girouard Mandolins, handcrafted in New Hampshire. Beautiful instruments, and nothing like them in the price range. www.girouardmandolins.com

Here's an interesting corollary- what's the least expensive made in USA mandolin? I had a lady come into working looking to buy a new USA-made acoustic guitar for less than $200, and I told her I thought it was impossible.

Thumbs up Re: Made In USA?

Collings makes great mandolins in Austin TX. I recently purchased a Collings MT Black Top mandolin from The Mando Shop in Tallahassee FL. At first, I had reservations about buying online. However, the folks at The Mando Shop were fantastic in allaying my fears. They helped me find the perfect mandolin for me by listening to my expectations and assessing my needs. What’s more, the setup is PERFECT! The action is low and the playability is off the charts. In fact, I have played it for 3 days while only tuning it once. ONCE! I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Howard Morris probably has the lowest prices for carved mandolins. For flattops, there's Thomas Flood or Big Muddy.

Or there's always the slightly funky ones made in the basement woodshop by my cousin's girlfriend's next-door neighbor's best friend's grandfather.

    Looks respectable.

The trouble with builders at low price points is that once people know who they are, they raise their prices...

There are many many many very fine USA made mandolins by passionate and dedicated builders available for really reasonable prices. I have seen and played many of them in the last few weeks.
