Could be worse. He could have been a microbiologist.
A new model for him, The Banana Bread. By the way, wicked cool oven.

Gladys S; Please remember, "For better or Worse". We have a family member with Alzheimer's and you never know what she'll put in the oven. Still trying to figure out why she's putting water in the clothes dryer. Wife has had to bail water out of it twice. Gently let him know that the stove is an electric and not a wood stove.

Don't worry, roasted maple is one of the more sought-after woods.

Outside of the outside note. I was stationed at Fort Lee Virginia in 97'.......Richmond was flooded with Virginia Tech girls. I can not imagine what it was like going to that school. I think at that time it was ranked as the number one party school and I believed it. Then again I was farm kid from Oklahoma....

I don't know about being an epic party school. I had fun for sure but, I had more fun playing on the Appalachian Trail nearby, mountain biking and taking tons of photos. It was hardly a Bacchanal on campus. By 97 I had been married for 4 years, my wife about to graduate Vet School, and I had been working in industry for 1 year and a half (took me a while to finalize my Thesis and defend).
I wish I had been more into mandolin and roots music at the time since I was so close to Floyd and the Crooked Road destinations.

Wood in the oven. I love it.
But I am curious. What else about living with a luthier?
Like jargon. The first time I heard the word "kerfing" I thought it was something you could get arrested for.
Wood in the oven - Does anybody remember an early episode of the Beverly Hillbillies when Granny tried to get the oven working by loading it up with firewood ?.
Frank Wakefield's take on this matter was to roast the completed mandolin - no half measures with that guy !,

Maybe he was performing a religious ritual, like a burnt offering to the mandolin gods. Maybe just some weird distressing, fire damaged California Special.

None of you guys have heard of roasted maple before?
Hi Gladys, great to see you on the cafe. It's nearly a year since I was at your place enjoying your wonderful hospitality. How time flies. I've lost all my Sorensen picks so just threaten Steve that all the picks you take out of the washing machine in future will be sent to Australia. I'll pay the postage.
I heard the engine of the Fed Ex truck today. Sad to say, Christmas presents aren't being delivered anymore. It's back to wood, and more wood.
Funny you should bring this thread back up. I Just happened to be browsing Steve's website today and listening to some sound samples. He is cooking up some seriously nice instruments!
Those oriental rugs just eat picks.
