Sorry if this explained already. I looked quickly and didn't see it.
Why on the Classified pages does it not show the price in the listings, as it does note yes/no has a pic?
Just wondering.
Thanks

The advertiser generally lists the price in the ad. If an advertiser does not quote a price, I and perhaps many others disregard the ad. This is, to me, annoying. Perhaps not as annoying to me as finding guitars listed in the mandolin section.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and I count Mandolin Cafe as one of the many things I have to be thankful for in spite of this small annoyance.

Thanks Bill. What I meant to ask is Why do I have to open the ad?
When you select your category that page has columns for ad headline, photo (y/n) and date posted. Why not one for price? If your budget is 2K you....

You need to cruise the classifieds as entertainment.
I too disregard any add without a price and any add without a picture.
And any guitar add in the mandolin section.

IMHO anything up for sale should show the price.

I think that perhaps some business advertisers don't put price in on purpose to hopefully lead you to their site. That doesn't bother me at all as long as contribute financially to the Cafe. Getting a lead to their site is their side of it.
I do agree though that when you read an ad with no price it's a minor irritation but nothing to get really annoyed about. When reading an ad the price is uppermost so advertisers should appreciate this. No doubt some have senior moments and just forget.
It's all surfing the web for Mando-porn, anyway!
It sounds like you don't want to open the ad.
You'd rather all the pertinent info be listed in concise printed format so that you don't have to open the ad.
You have no desire to open the ad, see the pictures, read the seller's description or maybe even listen to the occasional sound-clip.
We live in two different worlds.
"I play BG so that's what I can talk intelligently about." A line I loved and pirated from Mandoplumb
THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE JUST FOR YOUR SMILE!
Looking from the programming/software side of things:
- The program inherently "knows" whether pictures have been attached to the ad, and can easily indicate that on the listing.
- There is, as best I can tell, no uniform & pre-defined way to identify "price"; the seller includes that where & how they want, if they want.
IF the program were to try to interpret a price from within the free-form text, then some might be asking why so many mandolins cost 13 7/8.

Here is where you have the freedom to ignore any aspect of a forum you choose. Something bug you? Skip it. Don’t want to read another thread about Blue Chip picks? Don’t. Every thread I’ve ever started seem asinine to you? Don’t read them. Isn’t it wonderful.

What I meant by this is that what is best for a buyer is not necessarily best for the seller.
e.g.:
The buyer might want to glance quickly at brand and price.
The seller might want the potential buyer to open the ad, look at the pretty picture, and then decide to pay a little more for this great opportunity.
Sometimes you might be the buyer. Sometimes you might be the seller.

I don't want to open the ad if it's what I'm looking for. If I'm not looking for a guitar, I don't want to look at guitar ads. If I'm not looking for an instrument priced well beyond my budget, same. Either are a waste, better spent on the ads selling what I'm shopping for.
I believe the seller's description and photos (the more the better) to be very pertinent, BTW.
As I said early on, I was just wondering.
So you all understand. I'm not complaining. Yes, I'd prefer pricing was shown on the listings page, but no matter. This was just something I was curious about.
Sometimes I shop (window shop at least), and budget matters. I tire of shopping, be it for cars, shoes, instruments.... I find it fatiguing after a while.
Sometimes the classifieds are entertainment for me, mando-porn as John said. Then I don't care if it's priced. I'll peruse ads until I've had my fill.
I, for one, get a kick out of how many mandolins are marketed as "wide open, woody, woofs like a dog, hoss, banjo killer "
The pictures and descriptions are marketing, the price is the bottom line for many shoppers with a finite fund.
I've only bought mandolins from builders. I use the classifieds as entertainment.
