Default Big muddy m-11 vs morris oval hole

    Hi!
I have a Big Muddy M-11. It sounds tubby on the G-string. Could that be due to a need for new strings?

Also, I'm wondering if a Morris oval hole would be more to my liking. Does he make an oval hole with an arched top? I also wonder if he would make it with a radiused fretboard.

    Thanks!

The m11 is all mahogany so it makes sense it would be on the "tubby" side tonally. As for a Morris oval hole, why don't you contact him? I'm sure he'd build whatever you like however you like.

I have a Big Muddy (M4 I think) and I also have a Morris arch top with F holes. So .... not the same but I will say that I experimented with picks and strings until I heard the sound I wanted.

I had a Morris A4 (arched top oval hole). It had a radiuses fret board. It was a beautiful mandolin. The sound was way different from my Big Muddy-not better or worse just different.
    Thanks

Several mandolins of varying quality-any one of which deserves a better player than I am.......

I have a Morris hybrid F4 - arched cedar top and arched maple back. Elevated radiused fretboard with a 14 fret body join. Warm tone, rich lows, lots of sustain.

Sonny can build to your choice of tonewoods, radius, etc.

Thanks to everyone who gave their advice. Mandobart, could you send a picture of your mando please? It sounds like one something I'd be interested in.

Thanks for the pics, Mandobart. I would like to look into possibly ordering one like it. Do you know what # it is? Like was it Howard's 85th, or whatever?

    Thanks again!
