Default John Reischman's book of transcriptions for Up In The Woods

Here's a sneak peak at the new book cover, said to publish in October some time.

The transcriptions were done by David Benedict, mentioned in a recent Mandolin Mondays post. Here's a video of John and David playing "Indiana Firefly" together.

Ditto. Great tunes. Great album. Should be a fun challenge to learn these tunes. I really like the transcriptions David is doing these days!

Well,it's been a long time comin',but i'm sure that it will be well received by all the JR afficionado's like myself. I only hope that John's kept to the recorded version as close as possible. I have a YouTube clip of him playing 'Nesser' one of the first 'real' tunes i learned,& he plays it nothing like the recording,

I'm also helping John Reischman with this project. The transcriptions are the melodies and the solos John plays on the CD.

Will a transcription of 'North of The Border' be coming along any time soon ? - it's another JR 'classic' recording,

Ditto "Walk Along John". I've just discovered JR via this album (hey, I'm still a n00b) and it's been on permanent rotation for two weeks.

I spent a lot of time learning about 2/3rds of the tunes from the CD. It'll be nice to see what I screwed up

I will be at Walker Creek as well and really hope this book is out by then. I will be buying two copies - one for myself and one for my son who has recently been bitten by the 8-string bug!

Many of those tunes have been transcribed, somewhere on the web:

    For Vic
    Cazadero
    Big Bug
    Brooks

    Great, great album

John D: The book includes all the tunes on the "Up in the Woods" CD --the melody and the breaks John R takes on the tunes on the CD.

If you want to see more books from John Reischman, buy the "Up in the Woods" book when it comes out.

Sounds like it should be a great book. Now if I can just get that tone that John gets!

In his workshops John usually describes the Red Bear picks he uses and the reverse attack angle he gets from his double-jointed thumb. You can get his tone by adding those details to your playing. And a Loar...

I'm hoping to get it to the printer in the next couple days. Walker Creek is the goal.

I am talking to my orthopedic surgeon about Reischman surgery to have my thumb reshaped to match John's.

I have done a few of John's workshops and I absolutely love them. I find he is a great teacher.

I have been going through his songs, trying to figure them out. I am anxiously waiting for his new book. I noticed an old thread from a few years ago about tabs for A Prairie Jewel. I message someone on the thread but never heard back from them. Does anyone know how to get a hold of this tab or some clues as to the notes played.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can find a transcription of John playing the Cole Porter Tune "You'd be So Nice to Come Home to" from his old release North of the Border?

I can't help you with those transcriptions, but I can tell you that the "Up in the Woods" book went to the printer today. Looks like John's students at the Walker Creek Camp will be the first to see the finished book.

Sure would be nice to see a followup book transcribing that CD's solos, too!
