Hello Mr. Carr, from a fellow Buccaneer ('02 - '07). Very impressive that you have developed fluidity with both McReynolds and Shuffler patterns! Not many folks on that list. I will say, and I mean absolutely no offense, that if you plan on teaching McReynolds' style accurately, you would benefit from studying more of Jesse's actual solos. Your arrangement uses the basic right hand pattern, but it doesn't really sound like McReynolds. Take a look at this:

Notice that my melody stays exclusively on the D or G strings (mostly D, never A), while the E and A are primarily drone strings (with added chord tones only on the A string). With my right hand, I'm either rolling across three strings or using alternating pick direction across two strings. Never using the DUU pattern across two strings (like in your chorus).

If you don't already have them, I highly recommend the Jesse McReynolds book by Andy Statman, Jesse's homespun video, and Bluegrass Mandolin by Jack Tottle. The more that you study Jesse's solos and patterns, the easier it will be to create your own authentic sounding arrangements and teach this style. Hope this helps, all the best.
