Isn't he just joke-conducting the band for a larky photograph?

I wonder who "unidentified man" is. He could tell a story or two.

I wonder what year that photo.was taken. Wouldn't it have been incredible to have had a young Bill Monroe in it,with the 2 people who began to shape his whole musical outlook - his Uncle Pen & Arnold Shultz,

Before reading the caption I thought he was holding fiddle sticks.

Judging the book by its cover... looks interesting.

So then, is it a given that this photo of Arnold Schultz is mis-labeled?

That's supposed to be a photo of Arnold with Clarence Wilson.

It is mind boggling to think of the amount of music that was directly or indirectly derived from this man's playing and influence.

First his influence on Monroe leading to all of modern bluegrass and a lot of the country music. Then through Mose Rager and Kennedy Jones it lead to Merle Travis who lead to Chet and to Doc's fingerstyle playing, to most all of the country chicken pickers and a large part of the folk fingerstyle playing. That would be everyone from Brad Paisley and Brent Mason through Tommy Emmanuel, Pete Huttlinger and Marcel Dadi. Then lastly though Rager's friend Ike Everly with his boys Don and Phil and their role in early rock and roll. They influenced ALL of the rock and roll at least through the 1960s or 1970s.

That is an awfully long shadow cast by a guy who never had much for himself and who is almost unknown.

Thanks for remembering Ike Everly Carl. I saw a UK TV documentary many years ago about the Everly's & their musical background. In it was a visit that they made to Mose Rager. I'd never heard of the guy before, but as an avid Chet Atkins / Merle Travis fan,it was fairly obvious where their style originated from, also the style of Ike Everly. I seem to remember that Mose Rager played with a very 'simplistic' thumb & first finger style, but he was one dickens of a picker,
