I was recently sent (from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland) a copy of this terrific video featuring my good friends mandolinist Donnie and his father, accordionist and gaelic singer Murdo MacDonald. I felt it was way too good not to be seen and heard on the cafe, and Donnie has finally, but reluctantly, decided that I can reveal the authentic Gaelic flavoured music of these two great traditional Lewis musicians. Donnie plays a National RM1. The button box is favoured in the isles still, and gets very close to the pipe tunes and Gaelic tongue when played so well like this. I love it!
The second tune was written by Murdo, and I think is entitled Murdo's Summer Isles tune, whilst the first is Glenstriven. Great playing, really good groove and its a real joy to hear such fine music from my home country. I only wish I had my fathers native Gaelic in order to be able to converse in the MacDonald's own tongue.
Moran taing Donaidh, tha i alluinn!
I hope you enjoy the video.
