    Default I play an orc?

"Electric mandolins are sort of the orcs to mandolins' elves." -Chris Thile

You'll need to listen to the preceding minute or so to get the context. Thile was talking about tone and why he isn't in a rock band. But I agree with his fun analogy, though electric mandolins have always struck me as more goblin like than orc like. Thile's point is e-mandos don't really sound like mandolins.

But that's OK with me, they have a different voice than a standard mandolin.

Would that make an electric octave an Uruk Hai? I want to play an e-mandocello so I can call it a Nazgϋl and have you all quake before me.

    Wonderful interview! Thanks for sharing.
    By the way...
Acoustic GDAE tenor guitar = Vulcan
Electric GDAE tenor guitar = Romulan
(Sorry for going "cross-mythos", but the analogies seemed too apt not to share..."Tuned like an octave mandolin, but with single strings, and the voice and character of a guitar...Flawlessly logical" )

And a banjo is Sauron himself.

There must be some kind of logic to the Vulcan harp, although I can't guess what it might be.

I have an Emando(mandobird), an Emandola(airline), an Emandocello(Soares), all I need is an Ezouk/octavemando and I'll be Lord of the E-Things...

One tonering to rule them all and in the breakdown, bind them.

Sorry Rico, but we are talking about a guy who once lifted an album title from a Tolkien elf song.

Man, Bertram, that is fantastic!...and it definitely has a "Klingon Drinking Song" feel to it!

Thanks Rico! I never left, just went dormant for a while.
Life changes: remarried in February, moved to England in April, will be a papa in August.
I've been gigging (some with my wife) too. So life is finding a new balance again. After the baby comes I'm sure things will get topsy turvy again.

Wow, Daniel, congratulations on all of your recent blessings! And, yes, post-baby will be a little crazy, but it gets worse the more mobile they get

FWIW, I play an orc, too...though when I first heard the interview my Fender blueburst FM-62SE popped first into my mind (before the Mandobird), compared, of course, to the Elfin magic acoustic tone of my Silverangel...
