Default One month to go...choro in Port Townsend at Centrum

We still have openings for the April choro workshops at Centrum in Port Townsend. I've posted the whole overview elsewhere here, and if you are planning to go, now's the time to book the dates. We are not at capacity yet, and need those of you who are assuming you are coming to book, and those who are thinking of coming to make a decision.

To give you a taste of last year's teacher's concert to show you what to expect, here's the link to Murmurando, just one of the songs done at the teacher's public concert, one spectacular concert.

We hope to see all of you who love Choro here in Port Townsend. We've expanded the workshop one full day, at the student's request, and we have some scholarships open for students that may need it. Just contact Greg Miller at Centrum for qualifications.

Fantastic, Al, thanks for posting. I am still coming down from a relatively small taste of choro with Dudu and Douglas along with Douglas' brother on pandeiro followed by our second bandolim workshop with Dudu. I wish I could be out there for the Centrum event. Ah, someday.

Glad to hear to it Jim. As shown elsewhere on this board, there are a lot of people learning choro these days. We're glad we can bring an entire band's worth of people together, all from Brazil, which is unique in what is happening around the US. We are striving to continue Centrum's focus on bringing together the people who are from the location of the original music, whether Brazil, Fiddle Tunes from around North America, Blues or Jazz. That's what we feel is our difference.

We also are video taping all the class performances for folks on Sunday, and the late night jams last year were over the top great. We intend to video tape the instructor performances again this year, both to promote them and this wonderful music.

We hope you and others can make it in future years, and that we can continue to draw enough people to make it worth doing. We did have one person from NYC last year, who is returning this year. Airfares apparently are still low from NYC to SEA. As you know, the break even for bringing all these musicians up from Brazil is quite high, and we do have a number, below which we can't afford to do this. Luckily, we've been continuing to be above it. The cost of handling the visas' for these folks, airfare, and lodging up here in PT is a hidden cost of running one of these workshops. I'm glad you were able to piggy back off our efforts back there! (G). Since we still can take a few openings, and have a couple of scholarships available, spread the word any way you can.
