Thread: New Voight

  1. #1

    Default New Voight

I'm starting this thread to post the final stages of my latest F style. The neck is being glued in at the moment. I plan on stringing it up in the white hopefully this week and making the final adjustments. I will post sound clips of the mandolin from the early stages after first being strung up as well as through the final adjustments and after finishing.

    Enjoy

    Ah ah.

Is this the one with the CF bracing rods?

In any event, lovely, to say the least. My congratulations.

Just about ready for some strings. There is still lots of sanding to do but I know ill probably bump it on something playing it in the white. I'll post sound clips of the initial string-up and then some progressive clips as it settles in a bit.

I recorded this clip roughly 10 minutes after stringing it up. There is still a lot of sanding to do. I also have yet to open up the F holes and remove material from the recurve area. The neck is also pretty fat still. Set up is close but not as low as I'd like it.

Dan, that looks and sounds great. Do you have any sense how the CF rods are affecting the sound yet? Keep us posted.

Elixer mediums. They're not quite settled in yet.

Im going to reserve that judgement until I open up the F holes and finish the recurve area. I'll post more clips soon.

    Dan,

I love both the look and the tone of that mandolin! I don't know what you mean by "opening up" the f-holes, but I sure wouldn't want to do much to them. I'm not much of a fan of traditional f-shaped holes (fiddle player bias), but I think those are some of the most stylish and artistic that I have seen.

    Keep up the great work!

Here is a clip I did today. The mid/bottom range is starting to come in and the instrument sounds more refined than last week.

Dan, just wondering how that mandolin with the CF rods is doing. It sounded great in the white and it's been a little while, what are your thoughts?
